ALL ABOUT NEWCOMERS Artnet Auctions's Newcomers sale features work by artists who are newer to the auction market. From emerging rising stars to mid-career and established art world figures, artists represented in this sale are fresh to the auction market––and their work represents a great collecting opportunity.
We used the Artnet Price Database to look at the data behind sales of works by three of the artists in the sale––Charming Baker, Isabella Nazzarri, and Math Bass. Read on to see why you should consider collecting works by these artists right now.
LIVE NOW ON ARTNET AUCTIONS Charming Baker, whose 2008 work Trouble Rides a Fast Horse (shown above) is estimated at $10,000–15,000 in our Newcomers sale, first earned his spot as a rising star with a 2011 solo exhibition at Mercer Street Studios in Covent Garden. Since then, he has exhibited work around the world, and seen auction results top $65,000––without the aid of a dealer or traditional gallery representation––and his notable fans include fellow British artist Damien Hirst, gallerist Harry Blain, and collector Tico Mugrabi. Isabella Nazzarri Sublimazione di una valle, 2017 Est. $5,000—7,000 Math Bass Newz! (3 works), 2017 Est. $6,000—8,000 Isabella Nazzarri, another Newcomers artist, is much newer to the market than Baker, and her paintings have hit the auction block only three times before this sale. Nazzarri’s record at auction is $6,373, set in 2018, making the low estimates of $3,000 and $5,000 for her two works in Newcomers very reasonable––especially because both Sublimazione di una valle (2017) and Movimento 2 (2017) are of similar size and period to Nazzarri's top lot.
