The Week in Art: Refinery29 Gets Artsy for Fashion Week and Accessible Art Fair Announces New York Launch
Summer may be ending but the fall art scene is already heating up.
Though it may seem that Armory Week and Frieze Week get all the action, the reality is that there is never a dull moment in the New York art world. From the East Side to the West Side, there’s always something happening at the city’s museums, galleries, and various event spaces. This week was no exception.
Refinery29’s 29Rooms in Bushwick
For the second year, women’s website Refinery29 is celebrating New York Fashion Week with a funhouse-like interactive installation curated by co-founder and executive creative director Piera Gelardi and creative director of experiential Albie Alexander Hueston. Before the three-day event opened to the public, the company threw a celebrity-studded party on September 8.
Present for the festivities were actors Jessica Alba, Carrie Brownstein, Priyanka Chopra, Adrien Grenier, Rashida Jones, Victoria Justice, and Kate Mara. Representing the world of fashion were designer Christian Siriano and model Adwoa Aboah.
The wonderland of installations included a slew of Instragram-ready photo ops that Hueston, speaking to artnet News, called “an opportunity for guests to create their own content.”

MvVO ART Announces the Debut of the Accessible Art Fair New York at artnet
With Brussels’s Accessible Art Fair set to inaugurate its New York edition at the National Arts Club in November, the fair’s US partner, MvVO ART, held an anticipatory event at artnet’s Woolworth Building offices.
Guests enjoyed cocktails from Stoli Elit Vodka before taking in talks from the major players at the new fair, including MvVo ART co-founder Maria van Vlodrop, who co-founded the fair’s New York edition, and Stephanie Manasseh, who founded the Accessible Art Fair in 2007 and will serve as chief curator in New York.
Participating artists Marcel Ceuppens and Margaret Ann Withers were also on hand to address guests, as well as guest curator Isaac Aden.

Opening Reception for “Robert Polidori: Ecophilia/Chronostasis” and “Ian Davenport: Doubletake” at Paul Kasmin Gallery
The evening of September 8 marked the kick off of the fall gallery season, and dealers all over the city opened their doors to art lovers.
At Chelsea’s Paul Kasmin Gallery, art critic and artnet News contributor David Ebony, PR maven Anna Rosa Thomae, artist Marcelle Murdock, and art advisor Maria Brito were all on hand for the opening reception for solo shows of work by Robert Polidori, of large-scale urban photography, and Ian Davenport, of striking, art historically-influenced striped paintings.

House of Peroni at 306 Bowery
Popular Italian brewing company Peroni Nastro Azzurro teamed up with photographer and film director Francesco Carrozzini to debut the first US edition of House of Peroni, a celebration of fashion, cuisine, film, design, and art.
At the September 7 opening at the former Patricia Field boutique, guests included model and artist Tali Lennox, musician Solange Knowles, and award-winning costume designer Catherine Martin. On the occasion of the pop-up space (open through September 10), Martin’s work from such films as Moulin Rouge and The Great Gatsby is on view in an exhibition titled “Bizarre Love Triangles.”
Guests sipped Peroni-infused cocktails and enjoyed bites from iconic New York Italian restaurant Cipriani while enjoying work by Italian artist Vanessa Beecroft and London-based sound designer Max Cooper.
