Though it may seem that Armory Week and Frieze Week get all the action, the reality is that there is never a dull moment in the New York art world. From the East Side to the West Side (and, in the summer, out on Long Island’s East End), there’s always something happening at the city’s museums, galleries, and various event spaces. This week was no exception.

Grindr’s Slumbr, a Black Tie Pajama Party with VISIONAIREWORLD at the Top of the Standard
The entire 17th floor of the Standard Hotel was transformed into a series of themed art installations by artists including Jacolby Satterwhite and Juliana Huxtable on June 26 in honor of Pride Week. Guests at Grindr’s black tie pajama party included fashion designer Alexander Wang, actor Zachary Quinto, and fashion journalist Hamish Bowles.

Spiked protein shots were served as refreshments through glory holes, while Asian cowgirls offered temporary tattoo tramp stamps and performers dressed in vintage Helmut Lang reenacted gay cruising scenes from 1980s-era Central Park. The night closed out with a performance by Bonnie McKee, who sang Prince’s “When Doves Cry” from atop the bar.

Planters: ON+OFF the Ground VIII and My Elizabeth at LongHouse Reserve
Artists, horticultural experts, designers, and landscape professionals, brought their best garden masterpieces to the LongHouse Revere in East Hampton on June 25 to be judged by Martha Stewart in the highly-anticipated garden container competition. In honor of LongHouse Reserve’s 25th jubilee year, entrants were asked to adhere to a silver theme.

That same day, the sculpture park also hosted the release of My Elizabeth, Firooz Zahedi‘s new book of photographs of his friend, iconic actress Elizabeth Taylor. “Some people think of her as a person who just had a lot of husbands and a lot of jewels, et cetera,” Zahedi told Harper’s Bazaar. “But besides that, she had a great soul.”

The Parrish Art Museum Contemporaries Circle Brunch at the Surf Lodge
The Parrish Art Museum held its annual brunch for members of the Parrish Contemporaries Circle, for art lovers between ages 21 and 45, at the Surf Lodge in Montauk on June 26. Steering committee member James Salomon of Salomon Contemporary hosted along with Jayma Cardoso and Randy Scott of the Surf Lodge, while guests included artists David Salle, Cindy Sherman, and Eric Fischl, and fashion designer Nicole Miller.

The Summer Party on the High Line
The High Line held its annual summer party on June 22, outfitting guests, who included actresses Chloe Grace Mortetz, Famke Janssen, and Parker Posey, as well as photographer Michael Avedon, grandson of Richard, with floral crowns and Coach dinosaur pins.

The event took place inside the Chelsea Market Passage, which was transformed into an urban jungle in honor of the occasion. Among the night’s highlights was a photo booth as well as tequila-infused shaved ice and more traditional cocktails, all enjoyed as the sun set over the Hudson River on a gorgeous summer evening.

The Public Art Fund‘s “The Language of Things” at City Hall Park
Director Nicholas Baume was on hand on June 28 to debut the Public Art Fund’s latest show, a group exhibition exploring the human tendency to to try to decipher meaningful patterns in natural occurrences. Tino Seghal‘s female performers engaged park-goers by serenading them with oldies pop tunes. Art world celebrities spotted at the event include JiaJia Fei, the Jewish Museum’s director of digital, and artists Adam Pendleton and Claudia Comte, among others.
